The Grounds

The River Blyth

The Hall was built on the banks of the peaceful River Blythe which runs alongside the property. Earlier generations of Dugdales would have enjoyed dishes of freshly-caught trout, eel, perch and pike from the river and fishponds beside Blyth. These days, guests can explore the leafy river banks and the creeks behind the Hall, enjoying the serenity of one of the Midlands’ prettiest stretches of river.

The Stews Walk

While you are exploring the grounds, enjoy a stroll along the Stews Walk. The entrance is beside the Terrace and the picturesque route leads you around the Peninsula and Walled Gardens and through the grounds at the rear of the Hall.

The Peninsula Garden

You can reach the Peninsula Garden through a door behind the outbuildings in the courtyard.  The most gentle and charming garden on the estate, it is flanked by water on three sides and is the perfect spot for relaxing. On warm days, enjoying a good book on the bank or watching the family of swans that nest nearby are idyllic ways to spend an afternoon.

The Walled Garden

A door beyond the orchard leads into the Walled Garden, across the water from the Peninsula Garden. Its large grassy lawn, greenhouses and selection of plants make this the perfect place to sunbathe, play frisbee or just chill out.

The Orchard

Depending on the season, help yourself to a range of fruits, including several varieties of pears and apples, in the Orchard beside the walled garden.

The Terrace

For many guests, the pretty terrace is a favourite place to sit outside on hot, sunny days, savouring the picturesque views of the river and the Stews. Enjoying a cup of coffee or picnic lunch at the outside chairs and tables is one of the pleasures of summer at Blyth and the rural vistas have changed so little, you can almost imagine yourself back in the 18th century.
